Holiday Recommendations

These are a few of my favorite books published in the past year, 2016.  Many would make great gifts for loved ones and all are available to borrow over Winter Break from our Library.  You also may want to take a look at this New York Time List for shopping ideas.  Enjoy!

Tek: The Modern Cave Boy by Patrick McDonnell

Visit with 3rd Grade to the Nikkei Legacy Institute

During our library classes, we have read and discussed "The Bracelet" by Yoshiko Uchida which shares the story of a young girl preparing and arriving at a Japanese Internment Camp during WWII. We also have watched newsreel footage from the time period that shows the camps and the community activities.  It is a powerful primary source.

Our field trip helped answer the question "What happened in Portland?" "In Oregon?" and the students were able to do their own field research.  I was so glad to be part of the trip!
